1. Overview
This policy explains what information the TideCast team (the "Operator") processes when providing the TideCast mobile application (the "App"), for what purposes, how long it is kept, and your rights. The Operator complies with applicable laws, including the Korean Personal Information Protection Act and the EU GDPR where applicable.
2. Location Data (Key Section)
- When it is used — Location is read only at your request: ① when you tap the "my location" button on the map, ② while the fishery-zone entry alert feature is enabled, and ③ once when you start Foraging Mode. There is no background location tracking.
- On-device processing — Coordinates are compared against fishery-zone data bundled in the App, entirely on your device. Location data is never transmitted to any server and is not stored anywhere.
- If you deny permission — All core features (tides, tide days, sea weather) work normally without location permission.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
- Contact details such as name, email or phone number — the App has no account or sign-up feature.
- Server-side location storage — see Section 2; location never leaves your device.
- Other on-device data such as contacts, photos or call logs — not accessed. (When you share a tide card, only the single image created by the App is handed to the app you choose.)
- Payment information — the App has no purchases.
4. Automatically Processed Information
| Data | Purpose | Processor |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID), device info (model, OS version, language), IP address, ad interaction data | Serving and measuring ads (keeps the App free) | Google AdMob |
| IP address and request logs (when downloading tide/weather data) | Delivering tide and sea-weather data; security and stable operation (standard server access logs, kept briefly then deleted) | Operator |
| IP address (when requesting standard basemap tiles) | Displaying the map background (the default dark map is bundled and makes no external requests) | OpenFreeMap (map tile provider) |
5. Data Stored Only on Your Device
Favorite stations, tide alarm settings, Foraging Mode session state, the catch diary (your notes plus auto-stamped tide conditions) and app settings are stored only on your device and are never sent to the Operator. Deleting the App deletes them.
6. Notifications
Tide alarms, Foraging Mode alerts and morning tide summaries are local notifications scheduled directly on your device. They do not pass through any external server and can be turned off anytime in system settings.
7. Ads and Consent
The App shows ads via Google AdMob. In regions requiring consent (EEA, UK, etc.), Google's consent platform (UMP) lets you choose personalized or non-personalized ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings. See the Google Privacy Policy for details.
8. Children's Privacy
The App does not target any specific age group and does not collect personally identifiable information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Your Rights and Contact
Data stored on your device can be removed immediately by deleting the App. For any privacy inquiries or requests, contact us and we will respond promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the revised content and effective date will be posted on this page. Material changes will be announced separately in the App.
